About the Department
The Department of Public Health is the leading department in the College of Health Sciences at Mattu University in terms of the number of academic fields and the number of teachers it provides. It has evolved through a series of development and reforms process to reach the current status and provide quality education and services to the community. All staffs of the department are working in harmony towards the achievement of the set vision and missions of the department.
Since 2012, this department has been teaching undergraduate students in public health through regular, evening and summer programs. Although the non-regular undergraduate public health programs have ceased now, in 2016, Master of Public Health with a weekend program at Gambella, Mattu and Bedele were started. Recently Masters of Public Health has being rendered in weekend program at Bedele, Bure and Mattu sites whereas only regular program at Mattu Main campus. As well starting from 2019 this department has been teaching Human Nutrition in regular and weekend program. Also the department has teaching regular post basic family health program since late 2020.

Mission
The mission of the public health department is to produce competent public health professionals who undertake promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services including management and implementation of PHC services compatible to the needs of the population.
